Starring Robert Beatty, Moira Lister & Stanley Holloway, “Another Shore” is a charming Ealing comedy filmed in Dublin, and filled with sharp wit, about an Irish civil servant who dreams of living on a South Seas island.

The implication is that Robert Beatty’s character Gulliver Sheils would preferably be alone on his paradise island but Moira Lister’s character Jennifer has other plans after she lays her eyes on him.

Filmed on location around Dublin, the cast is filled with Irish acting talent including Sheila Manahan, John Kelly,Maureen Delany & Wilfrid Brambell.

Canadian actor Robert Beatty appeared in many British productions including “Murder in Soho” with Googie Withers, “San Demetrio London” with Gordon Jackson, “A Matter of Life & Death” with David Niven, Carol Reed’s “Odd Man Out” with Cyril Cusack & Maureen Delany, “The Gentle Gunman” with Dirk Bogarde, Elizabeth Sellars, Eddie Byrne & Joseph Tomelty, “Albert R.N.” with Jack Warner, “Out of the Clouds” with Anthony Steel, Eunice Gayson & Katie Johnson, “2001: A Space Odyssey” with Leonard Rossiter, “Where Eagles Dare” with Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Mary Ure, Donald Houston & Ingrid Pitt, “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” with Peter Sellers, Herbert Lom, Michael Robbins & Colin Blakely, and “Superman III” with Richard Pryor & Robert Vaughn, to name a few.

Premiering at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on the 25th of November 1948, “Another Shore” was one of Moira’s earliest films for Ealing.

Born in South Africa, Moira Lister became a regular leading lady in British film, especially in productions by Ealing Studios, from Ealing comedy “A Run for Your Money” (with Donald Houston, Meredith Edwards, Alec Guinness, Hugh Griffith, & Joyce Grenfell) to dramas such as the Brit noir “Pool of London” with Earl Cameron, and “The Cruel Sea” with Stanley Baker & Virginia McKenna.

Starting with “Another Shore” in 1948, Stanley Holloway went on to star in the Ealing comedies “Passport to Pimlico” with Barbara Murray, Basil Radford, Naunton Wayne, Charles Hawtrey & Margaret Rutherford, “The Lavender Hill Mob” with Alec Guinness, John Gregson & Audrey Hepburn, “The Titfield Thunderbolt” with George Relph & Sid James, and finally “Meet Mr. Lucifer” with Gordon Jackson, Joan Sims, Ian Carmichael & Irene Handl.
