BOAC Passenger by Art & Hue
Stylish pop art print of actress Jill Melford as a character in front of an aeroplane in the charming Ealing Studios film “Out of the Clouds“, available in three sizes & 21 colour options.

To mark 85 years of the airline BOAC and 70 years of the jet-set Ealing film, Art & Hue presents Out of the Clouds, a new collection of stylish pop art inspired by the golden age of air travel.

The aviation film “Out of the Clouds”, about the lives of airline crew and their passengers, stars James Robertson Justice, Eunice Gayson, Anthony Steel, Robert Beatty, David Knight, Margo Lorenz & Melissa Stribling.

Opening at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on the 10th of February 1955, Out of the Clouds is a charming snapshot of an era when flying was a glamourous affair.

Produced by Ealing Studios‘ head Michael Balcon, and directed by Basil Dearden from a screenplay by John Eldridge & Michael Relph, the cast also includes Fiona Clyne, Sid James and Katie Johnson.

The Ealing Studios production filmed on location at “London Airport” which later expanded to became Heathrow.

Seemingly destined to pursue a career in acting (her father was the actor Jack Melford and her uncle was the director Austin Melford), Jill Melford even married an actor, John Standing.

Evacuated to America during the war, Jill Melford made her stage debut in New York in a 1949 production of “Oklahoma!” followed by other Broadway appearances.

Her first screen credit was in the 1952 TV show “The Three Hostages” with John Laurie, followed by the 1953 film “Will Any Gentleman…?” with George Cole, William Hartnell, Sid James & Joan Sims. The Hammer film “Blackout” was next in 1954, with Alfie Bass & Cleo Laine, after which Jill appeared in “Out of the Clouds“.

Other credits include “Doctor at Sea” with Dirk Bogarde, James Robertson Justice & Noel Purcell, “The Servant” with James Fox, “The Saint” with Roger Moore & Stanley Meadows, “Danger Man” (renamed “Secret Agent” for American TV) with Patrick McGoohan & Earl Cameron, “A Stitch in Time” with Norman Wisdom & Glyn Houston, “Dixon of Dock Green” with Jack Warner, “Not Now, Darling” with Bernard Cribbins, “The Vengeance of She” with Colin Blakely & Noel Willman, “The Organization” with Valerie Leon, “Father Dear Father” with Patrick Cargill, Beryl Reid & Richard O’Sullivan, “The New Avengers” with Patrick Macnee & Joanna Lumley, “Crossroads” with Noele Gordon, “The Bitch” with Joan Collins & Ian Hendry, “The House of Elliott” with Burt Kwouk, “Little Lord Fauntleroy” with George Baker, and “Shoreditch”.
