Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb 4k UHD Restoration: 55th anniversary Hammer Horror Giveaway

With new Hammer Horror 4k UHD restorations arriving in April, available for pre-order now, Art & Hue has teamed up with STUDIOCANAL to give away Collector’s Editions of both films to one lucky entrant. Enter the giveaway here.
Curse of the Pharoahs
Whilst various rational theories have been put forward to explain the phenomenon, ranging from a tomb fungus to coincidence and pre-existing illness, the curse mythology never fully disappeared. George Jay Gould I, a visitor to the tomb, died of a fever shortly after his visit; Lord Carnarvon, the expedition’s backer, died just four months after the tomb was opened; excavation team member A.C. Mace suffered years of ill health; Carter’s secretary died in mysterious circumstances; and even Howard Carter’s canary was killed by a cobra on the very day the tomb was opened.
The legend of the disturbed mummy resurfaced almost half a century later when production started in 1971 at Elstree Studios on a new Hammer horror film, “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb“, starring Valerie Leon. Loosely adapted from Bram Stoker’s novel “The Jewel of Seven Stars”, the film would soon gain its own reputation for uncanny misfortune.
The film’s director Seth Holt suffered a heart attack on the 14th of February that year, five weeks into the six-week shoot, and had to be replaced by Michael Carreras to finish filming.
The “curse” theory gathered further traction when a crew member died in a motorbike accident, Valerie Leon missed filming with illness, the marriage of production manager Christopher Neame ended during the shoot, and cinematographer Arthur Grant died the following year (his final three films were Hammer horrors “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb”, “Fear in the Night” & “Demons of the Mind”).
Of course, many of the cast & crew survived the shoot and went on to thrive in their respective careers, but perhaps the myth of the mummy’s curse goes some way to explaining how a seemingly typical Hammer horror film managed to capture genuine unease and generate chills that makes “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb” an enduring fan favourite.
It has its lighter moments – early 70s fashions and Valerie provocatively munching on a banana – but it’s the atmospheric tension and horror that, 55 years on, sees the film get a lavish UHD 4k restoration.
Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb & Demons of the Mind
Available to pre-order, the 4k UHD Collector’s edition of “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb” is being released on the 6th of April alongside another Hammer horror film “Demons of the Mind“.
Starring Robert Hardy, Gillian Hills, Yvonne Mitchell & Patrick Magee, “Demons of the Mind” was filmed 55 years ago in 1971 and released in 1972. Along with “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb”, “Demons of the Mind” has gained cult status for its atmospheric storytelling.
Both films are available to pre-order now via Amazon: Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb, Demons of the Mind
To celebrate the new 4k releases, Art & Hue is giving one lucky subscriber the chance to win both Collector’s Editions. Enter here.

Valerie Leon
“Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb” is Valerie Leon’s largest film role – in fact she played two parts which secured more screen time. Whether she’s dressed as the Egyptian Queen Tera or in 70s gear as Margaret Fuchs, the daughter of Andrew Keir’s character Julian Fuchs, Valerie captivates in the film, right up until the unnerving ending.
Traversing horror, spy, and saucy comedy films across the 1960s and 70s, Valerie was able to hold her own whatever the genre.
Her many credits take in iconic British productions, including six Carry On films, “The Avengers“, “Up Pompeii“, “The Persuaders” with Tony Curtis, “No Sex Please, We’re British” with Ronnie Corbett, Beryl Reid, Margaret Nolan & Michael Ripper, “Revenge of The Pink Panther” with Peter Sellers, “The Saint”, “Space: 1999″ with Martin Landau & Barbara Bain, classic 1960s caper “The Italian Job” with Michael Caine, and two Bond films (“The Spy Who Loved Me” with Roger Moore & Caroline Munro, partly filmed in Egypt, and “Never Say Never Again” with Sean Connery).
Her height, normally referred to as Amazonian, was put to comic use in her Carry On appearances but for the serious business of horror, her co-stars were equally tall, such as the Australian actor Mark Edwards who plays Tod Browning in “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb”.
Collectors can enter to win both newly restored Hammer classics here.
