Michael Gambon pop art print

Stylish Michael Gambon pop art, part of the Irish Film collection by Art & Hue.

As well as this pop art portrait, Michael Gambon is included on the Irish Film Map print, a stylish map of Ireland with Irish actors & actresses.

Born in Dublin, Sir Michael Gambon became one of cinemas treasures, consistently delivering memorable performances whatever the billing.

From barn-storming performances such as that of Albert in Peter Greenaway’s “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover” to heart-wrenching television parts such as “The Singing Detective”, Gambon’s humour, pathos, and power imbued his work with an enduring strength that haunts the viewer long after the end credits.

One of Gambon’s earliest film appearances was in the 1974 film “The Beast Must Die” with Peter Cushing, which opened in London cinemas on the 19th of May 1974.

The cult werewolf horror film was produced by Amicus Productions and also stars Calvin Lockhart & Charles Gray.

The actor is beloved by younger viewers as Dumbledore in the later Harry Potter films, filling the role after Richard Harris.

Some of Michael Gambon’s other film credits include: “Othello” with Laurence Olivier & Maggie Smith; “Nothing But the Night” with Christopher Lee, Diana Dors, & Fulton Mackay; “Paris By Night” & “The Wings of the Dove”with Charlotte Rampling; “A Dry White Season” with Donald Sutherland; a tour-de-force performance as the gangster Albert Spica in Peter Greenaway’s “The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover”; “Bullet to Beijing” with Michael Caine; “Dancing at Lughnasa” with Kathy Burke; “Gosford Park” with Alan Bates; “Layer Cake” with Daniel Craig & Kenneth Cranham; “Dad’s Army” with Bill Paterson; “Kingsman; The Golden Circle” with Elton John; “Judy” with Renée Zellweger’s Oscar-winning performance as Judy Garland.

TV credits, which are many and varied, include “Public Eye” with Alfred Burke; “Special Branch” with Patrick Mower; “Minder”; “The Singing Detective” with Bill Paterson; “Doctor Who”; & Pinter’s “Celebration” with James Bolam.
