For British Black History Month, Art & Hue celebrates groundbreaking women with stylish illustrated pop art prints to mark 55 years since the first Black actress in a Bond film.

Naomie Harris

Naomie Harris is the first British Black actress to appear with Bond, and sets the record for the most Bond-film credits by a Black actress, following in the footsteps of other trailblazing actresses who have appeared in classic Bond films.

Portraying Eve Moneypenny, we only discover her identity at the end of her first Bond film, having decided that agent work in the field is not for her.

The Oscar-nominated British actress Naomie Harris holds the distinction of being the only Black actress to appear in three Bond films, the final three Daniel Craig productions “Skyfall”, “Spectre” & “No Time to Die”.

As Naomie herself said in 2015 at an event to celebrate Black Women of Bond, “there were not many representations of Black female beauty, I really have to thank Bond and the franchise for being forward thinking, and for being one of very few franchises at that time that actually presented Black women.”

Other film credits include “28 Days Later”, “Trauma” with Kenneth Cranham, “After the Sunset” with Pierce Brosnan, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” with Alex Norton, “A Cock & Bull Story” with Steve Coogan, “Black & Blue”, and an Oscar-nominated performance in the Academy’s Best Picture “Moonlight”. Naomie also appeared in the television event “The Third Day” partly inspired by “The Wicker Man“.
