Miranda Priestly
In “The Devil Wears Prada”, Meryl Streep delivers a tour-de-force performance as the fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly. Subtle and intimidating (yet always working for the good of the publication), Miranda is now part of fashion history as an iconic fictional editor.
Supposedly part-inspired by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, rather than caricature the role of Miranda Priestly, Meryl’s performance as the Runway magazine editor elegantly displays the determination and persistence involved to stay at the top of her game.
Whilst the film adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada” was initially misinterpreted as a critique on the fashion industry and the demands placed on junior staffers, appreciation has grown over the years to recognise the reality of a hard-working young woman being hindered by a whiny boyfriend (who blows all her hard-earned salary on Dean & Deluca cheese) whilst being trained & educated by an exceptional figurehead.
Renowned for her dramatic roles, Meryl’s comedy & dramedy performances are exceptional with instant-cult films “Death Becomes Her” and “The Devil Wears Prada” as particular fan favourites.
The most Academy Award-nominated performer in Oscar‘s history, Meryl Streep has received 21 nominations for Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress, winning three for “Kramer vs. Kramer”, “Sophie’s Choice” & “The Iron Lady”.
Just some of Meryl’s many lauded film credits include “Julia” with Jane Fonda, “Silkwood” with Kurt Russell & Cher, “Out of Africa” with Robert Redford & Graham Crowden, “Postcards from the Edge” with Shirley MacLaine, “Death Becomes Her” with Goldie Hawn & Ian Ogilvy, “The Bridges of Madison County” with Clint Eastwood, “Evening” with Vanessa Redgrave, “Mamma Mia!” with Pierce Brosnan & Julie Walters, and “Mary Poppins Returns” with Angela Lansbury & Dick Van Dyke, and just a couple of Streep’s TV credits include “Holocaust” with T.P. McKenna, & “Angels in America” with Michael Gambon.
