Positive Paints by YesColours

Whilst the online world of influencers seemingly embraces taupe walls and cream bouclé sofas – surely just a replacement for the grey-washing of homes in the previous couple of decades as an alternative way to shy away from colour – there are many options to bring personality to your walls with paints (and pop art!) that can instil positivity and joy.
With that in mind, Art & Hue was delighted to discover and investigate sample pots by YesColours. A relative newcomer to the world of paint, YesColours was founded in 2021 by John Stubbs & Emma Bestley and has already made a major colourful impact in interiors.

United by a love of colour, YesColours launched with a bright collection of paints that bucked the prevailing trends at the time and created their own universe with Joyous & Passionate collections.

Since then, the range of available colours has expanded to include Nostalgic, Dirty, Serene, Calming & Restful collections; all offering a wide gamut of hues in different tones.
From juicy peaches & bright yellows to vibrant turquoises & fresh greens, YesColours’ paints can enliven a space or, if you’re after something more relaxing, calm a room – all the options and tones are there to choose from.
Taking their range of peaches as an example, there are bright tones of Fresh, Calming or Friendly peach or you can go more muted with Serene, Restful, Nostalgic, Secluded, Dirty or Graceful (some of which featured in the Makeup for Walls blog post here). There should be something for everyone’s taste and mood so it’s just a case of calling in sample pots to find your ideal shade.
Incidentally, the sample pots are adorable – like the glass jars of poster paints from primary school, they pack a colourful punch on their own, before they’re painted up on sheets of card or lining paper to move around a room and see how they interact with the light.

Not that paint colours strictly have to match other items, such as Art & Hue pop art prints, in a room; they can be close and in the same gene pool without being matchy-matchy. As tempting as it sometimes is to coordinate everything perfectly, it can lead to a room looking too showroom or off-the-shelf rather than layered and expanded naturally and organically over time – the sign of a real lived-in home.

With that in mind, it’s not important that YesColours’ Electric Orange isn’t an exact match for the Art & Hue zesty colour option of orange, just that they’re nodding at each other in the same citrus aisle. Likewise YesColours’ Passionate Olive tips its cap to Art & Hue’s Leaf green when they meet over a martini.
Although admittedly, it is a pleasure to discover that YesColours Joyful Aqua and Electric Red (plus their Calming Yellow) are vigorously nodding in agreement with Art & Hue’s signature colours of red, aqua & yellow.

You may have spotted that YesColours package their paints in adorable pouches with a closeable screwtop for pouring out the required amount – not just great design but also great for the environment. You can order the exact amount of litres needed to paint a room, rather than have to over-order in larger tubs, so not just great for the environment but also the pocket.

The recyclable pouches use less natural resources and generate less emissions than traditional packaging as well as keep paint free from moisture, mould & dust with their easy to open and close “spout”.
If you’re interested in learning more about YesColours, take a look at their website where you can see all the colours available and even book a free 10 minute colour consultation for advice on your next decorating project, or purchase a longer consultation at a reasonable price for such insightful colour expertise.
Surely one can only say “YES” to that.
