A pair of stylish pop art prints inspired by the classic Ealing Comedy “Hue & Cry” with Alastair Sim.

Hue & Cry
Filmed against a bomb-ravaged London, the classic Ealing comedy “Hue & Cry” is like a Boy’s Own comic-book come to life with a bunch of school children playing amongst the rubble who foil a criminal gang by deciphering the coded messages in a comic strip.

The Poster pop art print is a remix of the original illustrated lettering created by the renowned artist Edward Bawden for the original poster of “Hue & Cry”.

Alastair Sim appeared in one Ealing comedy only but he’s an actor so synonymous with classic film comedy, it feels like he was in more.

Along with Jack Warner, Sim starred in what is considered to be the first official Ealing comedy “Hue & Cry”, which was a box-office success at British cinemas in 1947 and an encouragement to Ealing Studios to make more comedies.

“Hue & Cry” opened on the 23rd of February 1947 at London’s Tivoli Cinema on the Strand.

Art & Hue had the pleasure to delve into the archives for the Ealing Comedy “Hue & Cry” to create these stylish pop art prints, available in three sizes and many colour options.

With the original illustrated lettering by the renowned artist Edward Bawden, this alternative movie poster features one of the young boys from the gang letting out a large “hue & cry” to warn the other members of incoming danger.

Ealing engaged Bawden to create the poster for the 1947 Ealing comedy “Hue & Cry” starring Alastair Sim, and again for the classic train film “The Titfield Thunderbolt” released in 1953.
