Anneke Grönloh
Art & Hue presents Euro Song, a collection of stylish pop art featuring singers from across the years in homage to the European song contest.
Indonesian-born singer Anneke Grönloh broke boundaries and made history as the first non-White performer at the song contest when she represented the Netherlands in 1964.
Born in what was then called Dutch East Indies, Anneke had a successful music career throughout the 60s with hits including “Brandend Zand”.
She was chosen to represent the Netherlands in the 1964 with the song “Jij bent Mijn Leven” (You are My Life) which helped launch her international singing career.
Austria’s Udo Jürgens won the 1964 contest at which Matt Monro came second for the United Kingdom.
Due to her record-breaking sales in the Netherlands, and the affection the public held for her and her music, Anneke Grönloh was chosen by the public as the “Singer of the Century” in 2000.
Also available as part of a pair of prints.
