Kathy Burke Pop Art
Stylish pop art illustration of Kathy Burke, the comedy icon and national treasure.

It’s impossible to touch on all the amazing performances of Kathy Burke, comedic & dramatic, as the prolific actress has added her magic to so many productions.

From “Scrubbers” with Pam St Clement, to directing Jennifer Saunders in the Vaudeville Theatre production of “Lady Windermere’s Fan”, Kathy is a sharp-witted yet heartwarming thread that runs through British culture.

Beloved for her performances in “French & Saunders” and Harry Enfield’s shows, one of Kathy’s creations still resonates today thanks to repeated airings helping new viewers to discover the joys of her award-winning performance as Linda.

Linda La Hughes made her debut on the 8th of January 1999 in “Gimme Gimme Gimme” which ran for three series until the 14th of December 2001.

It’s hard to believe that Kathy only appeared in seven episodes of “French & Saunders” such was her impact when she did appear, including her classic take on Tilly in “The House of Idiot” and Bananarama.

Kathy collaborated with Jennifer Saunders again on “Absolutely Fabulous” appearing as the no-nonsense fashion magazine editor Magda in the series and in the film.

A regular performer on Harry Enfield’s shows, the show gave birth to many memorable characters including Waynetta Slob, the Herberts, and the insightful take on stroppy teenage boys, Kevin & Perry, which led to the big-screen outing “Kevin & Perry Go Large” with Kenneth Cranham.

For her dramatic performance in “Nil by Mouth”, Burke was awarded Best Actress at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.

Other credits include “Elizabeth” with Daniel Craig & Richard Attenborough; “A Very Peculiar Practice” with Graham Crowden; “Straight to Hell” with Grace Jones; “The History of Tom Jones: a Foundling” with Celia Imrie & June Whitfield; “Let Them Eat Cake” with Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders; and “Common as Muck” with Edward Woodward; to name a few.
