Ealing Repertory stylish pop art print.

Like the Ealing Comedies themselves, which seemed a genteel slice of Britishness but had an underlying edge, at first glance this print by Art & Hue looks like the sort of decorative flock wallpaper that used to be found in elegant sitting rooms of the era yet, upon closer inspection, the faces of Ealing’s stars are represented in halftone print.

With the Ealing Studios leaf motif as a repeat pattern, this print encompasses a cross-section of the classic Ealing Comedies with images from “Hue & Cry”, “Kind Hearts & Coronets”, “The Lavender Hill Mob”, “The Love Lottery”, “The Man in the White Suit”, “Meet Mr. Lucifer”, “The Titfield Thunderbolt”, and “Whisky Galore!”.

The Ealing Comedies employed a regular cast similar to repertory theatre with actors being used across several of the classic films.

Alec Guinness, Alastair Sim, Stanley Holloway, Joan Greenwood, Barbara Murray, John Gregson, George Relph, and Gordon Jackson, all appeared in more than one of the Ealing Comedies.

Joined by other actors for some films, such as David Niven in “The Love Lottery”, Dennis Price in “Kind Hearts & Coronets“, and Benny Hill in “Who Done It?”, the Ealing Comedies team came to represent the finest of British cinema.

An official collaboration with Studiocanal, this print is part of the Ealing Comedies collection of stylish pop art prints inspired by the classic British comedy films made at Ealing Studios, featuring Art & Hue’s signature halftone style (halftone is an age-old technique that uses dots to make up the printed image, similar to newspapers or comic books).
