Art & Hue presents Out of the Clouds – stylish pop art inspired by the jet-set Ealing film.
The aviation film “Out of the Clouds”, about the lives of airline crew and their passengers, stars James Robertson Justice, Eunice Gayson, Anthony Steel, Melissa Stribling and Robert Beatty, with Fiona Clyne, Sid James, Jill Melford and Katie Johnson.
Opening at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on the 10th of February 1955, it’s a charming snapshot of an era when flying was a glamourous affair.
The Ealing Studios production filmed on location at “London Airport” which later expanded to became Heathrow.
An official collaboration with Studiocanal, Art & Hue has delved into the archives to uncover images of the airport film, which have been transformed into stylish pop art prints.
Exclusively by Art & Hue, the Out of the Clouds collection is available in three sizes & many colour options, all printed to order on museum-quality archival card of 310gsm, made from 100% cotton, with fine-art pigment inks for longevity.
100 years ago on the 31st of March 1924, four airlines merged to form Imperial Airways, the precursor to BOAC; 95 years ago the first airfield Great West Aerodrome was constructed on land in the hamlets of Harmondsworth & Heathrow, the precursor of London Airport & Heathrow; 85 years ago on the 12th of June 1939, the British Overseas Airways Bill was introduced in the House of Commons to merge two airlines & form BOAC, passing into law on the 24th of November 1939; and 50 years ago on the 31st of March 1974, British Airways was formed from merging BOAC & BEA. The Ealing jet-set film “Out of the Clouds” was filmed 70 years ago in 1954 to be released in February 1955.
